Libraries, and Windows 7 is a really useful feature but unfortunately arrive function at a somewhat slimmed-down form. Microsoft has decided against exposing some really useful features for users. Fortunately, you can add network locations and all other UN-indexed locations, but it must be done programmatically.
MS supply a command-line ”slutil.exe”, candidate for the worst named executable. Pretty sure it stands for ”shell_library_util”. A library can display several different folders that can also be on one or multiple servers.
Imagine that you create library "Movies" that contains several folders on your computer and other servers. After you open the "Movies" and you'll see all the folders and files that are linked to the Library "Movies". This is very useful and saves a lot of time with long path type…
c:\Users\Rickard\Videos\rip\egna\Videos
\\SERVER\raid\pool\m2\film\HD
I "Movies
" is now both the folder "Videos
" and "HD
" and it is possible to save the files directly here via dialog box or file management. Once you have started using the library would not be without them.
- Upload folders, UNC or mapped drive as well as all other UN-indexed folders to libraries.
- Backup library configuration, proceed to a saved set of libraries can be instantly restored when necessary. As after a new installation of os or for transfer between multiple computers.
- Create a mirror of all libraries with symbolic links in
[Drive:]\Bibliotek
.
This means that you can reference all your files using a much shorter route, and also provides a different gateway to your files in many places in the operating system such as. Arkiv > öppna/spara dialoger. - Change Library icon.
Hopefully it is easy enough to use, so I need not explain it.
